Pigmentation, Melasma & Dull Complexion
Pigment spots caused by sun damage, aging, or hormonal fluctuations such as melasma (pregnancy mask) can leave the skin tone looking uneven and mottled. Pigmentation is caused by an overproduction of melanin. Melasma is a particularly complex and deep-seated concern; the pigment cells (melanocytes) are hyperactive and react to the slightest triggers, including UV radiation, heat, or hormones. As a skin therapist, I always treat pigmentation and melasma with extreme caution. Aggressive treatments can trigger a rebound effect, activating even more pigment.
Our solutions: Our clinical approach combines advanced lasers with powerful pigment inhibitors to safely and effectively lighten dark spots:
-
ZO Skin Health pigment peels & rotocols: Before introducing intensive laser treatments, the skin must be stabilized. ZO Skin Health’s high-dose skincare contains specific tyrosinase inhibitors that block pigment production at its root. Their medical peels then help accelerate the shedding of superficial pigment.
-
ClearLift & IPL Photofacial: Using ClearLift (a Q-Switched laser), we break down deep pigmentation into microscopic particles without heating the epidermis, which is crucial for managing melasma safely. For superficial sun damage, we utilize IPL to effectively clear away dark spots.
-
SkinPen microneedling: This helps even out the skin tone and stimulates overall cellular renewal, causing pigment accumulations to disperse more rapidly.
Clinical assessment & home protocol When dealing with pigmentation especially melasma homecare accounts for 80% of the final result. Without daily pigment suppression and the consistent application of a high-quality SPF, pigmentation will return. During an extensive consultation, we will analyze your pigmentation using a depth assessment and design a safe, combined treatment and home protocol.
